Two great London Restaurant Festival events this weekend:
STARTER FOR TEN - SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER, AT VINOPOLIS
I'll be battling it out with other London chefs against restaurant critics Giles Coren, Tracey MaCleod, Matthew Norman and Toby Young. With the legendary Bamber Gascoigne chairing the fight for foodie supremacy, my dreams of being on University Challenge may yet be fulfilled. Both chefs and critics will be answering questions on all manner of restaurant-related subjects. Tickets cost £25 each (includes complimentary wine/soft drinks before the quiz). A drinks reception will be from 6pm, with the Quiz starting at 7.15pm. The quiz will last one hour. To reserve your ticket call 020 7940 3000 or visit www.vinopolis.co.uk.
THE BIG ROAST
The Big Roast, part of the annual Game Fair at Leadenhall Market is a must for red blooded carnivores. Five different roasts will be served by myself and a few other London chefs including Mark Hix and Richard Corrigan. Hundreds of people are expected to sit down at the long trestle tables at Leadenhall Market and enjoy the roasts, bowls full of vegetables and lashings of gravy. Pudding will be rhubarb crumble and custard. The Big Roast runs from 12pm to 5pm, Sunday 11th October 2009. Tickets cost £40 (or £50 if you want to reserve a seat close to the chefs’ kitchen to watch the action). All tickets include a pre-lunch Gordon’s & Tonic at Prism Brasserie. THE POET’S DAY LUNCH - OCTOBER 30TH
We read with some mirth of the much exaggerated death of lunch. We believe that when people of discrimination and wit congregate, lunch will remain. There has been a tradition of Friday lunching in West London that, although threatened by the barbarian hordes, will never die. In celebration, join us for a Poet’s Day Lunch on Friday October 30th. After an aperitif, a selection of hors d’oeuvres - including a few novelties, and then a cep or white truffle risotto - selon le marche - and then a rarely seen gosphetridge. Similar to a turducken in which a chicken is stuffed inside a duck inside a turkey, a gosphetridge is, of course, a partridge inside a pheasant inside a goose. You definitely saw it here first. Book now for an extraordinary lunch, costing a mere £50.00 + service. Wine not included but offered, just this once, at a whacking 50% discount.
